CAREER DEVELOPMENT PANEL DISCUSSION WEBINAR

 
Event:
Panel discussion with four industry leaders followed by a Zoom breakout room networking session. Panelists will discuss a variety of topics related to work experiences and career development. Panelists will share their experiences during challenging phases of their careers and provide tips and best practices to persist, persevere, and thrive in the fulfilling industry of structural engineering.  Topics will cater to engineers with fewer than 10 years’ experience who may be seeking PE or SE licensure, but all members are welcome. Attendees will be able to submit questions in advance during registration, or during the session using the chat box.

Randy Collins, Principal and Founder of FTF Engineer, Inc. 

Randy Collins, CEO and Founder of FTF Engineering was determined to build a Structural Engineering firm that is driven by mission. His vision has attracted diverse and knowledgeable engineers that bring experience from national industry firms with a passion for building local communities. FTF integrates their core values with their clients’ needs to design safe and enduring structures with integrity. Randy is passionate about developing people and communities, and is committed to partnering with architects and contractors to push the boundaries of designs that meet client goals and expectations and are efficient and economical to construct. Randy also invests in the structural engineering profession through the Northern California and state chapters of the Structural Engineers Association (SEAOC), participating in numerous committees and panels including the Existing Buildings Committee, State Communications Committee, and Board of Directors, to name a few. Randy also serves on the Cal Poly Architectural Engineering Industry Advisory Board, and is active with UC Berkeley and UCSD alumnae.

 

Joyce Fuss, Associate at Lionakis

As an Senior Associate at Lionakis and a licensed California Structural Engineer, Joyce Fuss brings more than 38 years of experience in the industry to projects and professional organizations.  Ms. Fuss has been an active member of professional structural engineering associations since the beginning of her career and has served on the boards and continuing education committees of both SEAOC and SEAOCC.  She has designed projects for new and retrofit construction in compliance with state and local codes, including work with concrete, masonry, steel and wood and non-building structures.  Her experience also includes designs for the strengthening and repair of existing buildings and structural elements, including equipment anchorage and support.  Ms. Fuss is experienced in every phase of the design and construction process, from preliminary planning through construction administration, including site assessments and observation. 

 

Jason Horwedel, Principal at Buehler

Jason is a Principal and member of the Board of Directors for Buehler Engineering and has over 18 years of experience in Structural Engineering.  He has served as part of the SEAOCC Continuing Education Committee, Board Member, and Past President.  Jason received his Bachelor’s Degree in Architectural Engineering from Cal Poly SLO  and his Master’s Degree from UC Berkeley.  Jason’s favorite aspect of Structural Engineering is interacting with the many different people from different backgrounds that one gets to work with in the construction and design industry.  Because of this, Jason has a particular passion for the design-build environment and the collaboration that is essential to the success of all involved.

 

 Ken O'Dell, Principal at MHP

Ken is a Principal at MHP and a licensed structural engineer with over 30 years of experience and a passion for Making Buildings Safe. He has been involved with and responsible for a number of significant projects including entire school campuses (K-12 schools as well as higher education facilities), major hotels, housing, civic projects, and commercial and retail structures throughout the western United States. Along with his career Ken has also been an active member of SEAOC at both the state and local level.
